I didn’t realise until I was writing papers in college that I was using many of these spellings, not to mention a few other grammatical oddities. My english profs managed to break me of at least some of them.Since elementary school, I’ve flip-flopped between American and British spellings. For years, I had no idea it was a difference of nations, I’ve just always been a terrible speller. I usually have no idea I’m doing it, and I’ve never figured out where I would have picked it up. Except I’ve learned that my brain just does whatever the hell it wants. Also my brain has a tendency to group things in pairs so these “handy guides” always mess me up.
world: here you go, Jennifer, we made this guide of how you are suppose to do things, and we’ve handily put how you are not suppose to do things, right next to it!
me: great. thanks. I will almost always do one or the other of these things. Unless I just totally bungle it.
Also, when I started on tumblr, I used to use a moustache tag, until I sat myself down and reminded myself that I am an American. Sometimes it’s a moustache though, it just is.
fawwkkyeahimtheshit,
I will be needing this
Is it sad that I primarily use the British spellings?
Okay, I mix both. Does that make me Amenglish?
This is so useful!!!!!
